"City as a studio" for South Shore Soul Coast
The South Shore Chamber Inc, in collaboration with The South Shore Culture Center, Benyamin Maccabee, Faheem Majeed and Dr. Siddha Webber will provide an art display depicting the past present and future of South Shore.
Artist and educator Benyamin Maccabee will work in collaboration with students from Camelot Acadmey and nearby schools on research that will serve as talking points for artist Faheem Majeed to discuss the historical background of South Shore and the proposed vision for the future. The students will serve as host of the Opening of Open House Chicago October 17th and 18th. An Opening ceremony will take place at Studio 71 Art , 1834 E. 71 St. on October 16, 2015.
There will be a performance by Dr. Sidda Webber and the Ancestral Resurrection Ensemble on October 18th at the South Shore Cultural Center during Open House Chicago, along with the exhibition Art on the Block, with work by Benyamin Maccabbee, Everett Williams, Faheem Majeed and students from South Shore High school, Camelot Academy and neighboring schools.
Faheem Majeed is an artist, educator, curator, and community facilitator. He blends his unique experience as a non-profit administrator, curator and artist to create works that focus on institutional critique and exhibitions that leverage collaboration to engage his immediate, and the broader community, in meaningful dialogue. Majeed received his BFA from Howard University and his MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
The event will be open to the public at no fee.
