My City, Our City: A Photo Mashup

Date(s):

Saturday, October 17 from 11am - 3pm

About

Grab your friends and neighbors to build a connected, city-wide photomosaic sculpture - and share the City YOU love with the world - on this fun, interactive adventure for Chicago Artists Month 2015 designed by Chicago Creative Coalition (C3). Anyone with a smartphone can join in!

While you’re out exploring, curious spectators can watch LIVE as the images you’ve captured in your quest appear all over the My City, Your City sculpture at Sulzer in real-time according to your neighborhood, curated by members of C3.

Bathed in light with multiple projectors, the 20-foot cityscape will be a huge sculpture of cubes designed by interactive projection sculpture artist George Berlin to showcase the photos that creative Chicagoans submit.

Later that afternoon, head over to Sulzer to see the beautiful patchwork that the entire city has built on the sculpture - representing the individual and the collective view of our great city as homage to Chicago as Studio.

How is the City your studio?

This project challenges Chicagoans to look at their neighborhoods and the City with creative eyes. We hope to engage people to reflect on their urban surroundings, look around them with fresh eyes, and artfully capture images that they believe best answer the questions or solve the tasks. An example of one of the questions/tasks: Submit a photo of something most people just pass right by, but inspires or moves you. The mission of Chicago Creative Coalition is to enrich, educate and inspire creative lives.
